Beijing

Beijing is the national capital of China and a vibrant city of over 12 million people. Stops include the historic Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, The Olympic Park that includes the Bird's Nest Stadium and Water Cube Aquatics Center. We'll learn about the mineralogy of Chinese jade and how it is carved. We'll take a bus journey and go hiking on the Great Wall of China at a location where it is built upon outcroppings of the Yan Shan Granite.

How about an excursion to Beijing’s 798 art district? The 798 district was once part of China's military/industrial complex, a complex of factories used to build war machinery. It's now a funky collection of art galleries, coffee shops and a world class museum of Chinese contemporary art.

While in Beijing we'll be sure to sample the world famous Peking Duck.
